Your Job

To power our next-generation of digital health products, we have formed a new AI & Data Science team in the UK. Our mission is to build AI-driven products that improve outcomes and quality-of-care for Orthopaedic patients.

Our work covers three core areas - Product development, Clinical and product analysis and Platform development.

The Applied Machine Learning Scientist will be responsible for leading and collaborating on development of statistical and machine learning algorithms for production applications, exploring datasets and experimenting with new ideas, and developing analyses for consumption by internal stakeholders.

This role will be involved with the design, build, deployment and improvement of data-driven products that will improve the quality-of-care and quality-of-life of Orthopaedic patients worldwide.

How you do it

We are looking for a Machine Learning Scientist, who is passionate about shaping the future of digital healthcare, to join our Connected Health team.

Currently a home-based role due to COVID-19, however you will expected to meet at least once weekly when restrictions allow - Location to be confirmed but within central and west London belt.

Key areas of responsibility will include:

  • Develop statistical and machine learning algorithms for patient and clinician-facing applications, ensuring appropriate levels of rigor.
  • Explore datasets and experiment with new ideas for insights and products.
  • Developing analyses for consumption by internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborating with software engineering to build out our data science analysis and delivery platform.
  • Actively participate in team ceremonies (planning, retrospectives), and be proactive in improving team processes.
  • Work alongside the wider Connected Health team (e.g. product, operations, data governance) to ensure that our work is aligned with the business needs.
  • Work closely with regulatory colleagues and the quality management systems to ensure diligence around developing software-as-a-medical device.
  • Perform external ‘horizon-scanning’ to identify new tools, approaches, trends in the data science field, and share across the team.
  • Promote data science best-practice across the organisation.
  • This role works closely with team members based in the U.S. therefore, occasional evening meetings will be required.
  • When travel restrictions relax, there may be occasional travel to the U.S. for internal meetings, and also travel in UK/Europe to meet with customers.

  • You enjoy working as part of a cross-disciplinary product team, including working with the team and stakeholders to define roadmaps and milestones;
  • You have developed machine learning models to solve business/industry challenges;
  • You have experience programming with Python and packages associated with the machine learning workflow;
  • You are familiar with the challenges of deploying machine learning algorithms into production;
  • You are comfortable giving and receiving feedback, and sharing ideas openly with your team;
  • You have experience communicating analyses, technical ideas and their value to a range of audiences;
  • You are keen to learn about new technologies and methodologies;

An interest in the following would be beneficial: working with healthcare data, statistics/causal inference, graphical models, algorithmic fairness/bias, algorithm development in a regulated environment.
