What you'll be doing

You'll work in IT helping to deliver the best science IT capabilities in biopharma, which we define as agile, responsive and fit-for-future. In the era of digital health, AI and big data, IT is a groundbreaking partner in transforming our pipeline into the best medicines for our patients. It's a phenomenal time to join an IT organisation in R&D as we shift from service provider to transformative partner. You'll be focussed on R&D scientific data teams, helping to build and sustain a platform to make AZ a Digital R&D leader. This is sophisticated work and an ability to build clarity and facilitate decisions is crucial!

The core accountabilities of the role include:

The Business Analyst within the Data Science arena is expected to perform in the following:

Agile - Working closely with front line end-users and Product Owners to discover, research and capture their needs. Working with Experience Designers, to create personas and user journey and to help and support the creation of wireframes and prototypes to bring solution options to life. Working closely with Product Owners to create and maintain a prioritised service & product backlog. The preparation and readiness of the product backlog items (e.g. user stories) to be taken into delivery sprints. Working with those across the Agile delivery lifecycle including Delivery Management, UX, Creative, Architecture, Development, Integration, Test, Business Change, Project and Release Management

Business Needs Identification - Operates at a functional level in assessing and defining business need and areas for improvement. Monitors and identifies capability gaps and proposes potential solutions through research internally and externally.

Business Analysis Planning - Selects the appropriate analysis approach to a piece of work depending on its complexity, level of risk, known assumptions, constraints and dependencies. Capable of planning own activities to meet deliverables and deadlines. Accountable for performance and quality of own analytical work delivered.

Stakeholder Analysis & Change - Identifies stakeholders and produces stakeholder maps. Builds and manages relationships. Contributes to communication plans and change management for project and stakeholders.

Requirements Analysis and Design Definition - Responsible and accountable for requirements management plans including elicitation, approvals, processes, risks, issues and scope impacts. Works with the business to identify functional and technical requirements, translating the requirements into design specifications reflecting Functional Design, User Interface Design and Business Process Design. Closely partnering with the Architecture team, ensuring the technical solution will deliver the agreed business benefits.

Solution Evaluation - Proficient in analysing and assessing solution proposals and able to articulate supporting reasoning and steer stakeholders through decisions. i.e. appropriateness for the business need, assessing business readiness, maximizing value vs. spend.

Essential skills

  • Practical usage of Agile Methodology and tools such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Working with complex integrated systems, using creative and strategic thinking to deliver exceptional results
  • Strong engagement, communication and stakeholder leadership skills, including excellent presentation and influencing skills
  • Experience of virtual collaboration to shape and develop innovative solutions
  • Experience of working with third party suppliers/vendors
  • A deep understanding of developing the end user experience within an evolving data analysis platform
  • Proficient at coaching and mentoring junior business analysts.
  • Solid understanding of developing business processes for provisioning data through data repositories in line with data standards and legal and ethical compliance.
  • Responsibility in growing the data science capability by ensuring that appropriate training and educational material is made available to the user base as well as internal training of the team.
  • An understanding of working in a GxP validated environment and the implications of this for a Data Science Platform

Data skills

  • Practical experience as a business analyst working on data intensive projects and services
  • Knowledge of the mechanics of engineering for data science and the mindsets of data scientists. This may include protocols used to create, train, validate and utilise predictive models to support data-driven decision making.
  • Knowledge of Machine Learning or AI algorithms and their application to commercial processes
  • Knowledge of data science tools and technologies, ideally including AWS cloud data analytics technologies.
  • Knowledge of data/information architecture.Knowledge or experience of delivering ROI's and business value using Data Science, Cloud within a DevOps environment.
