The recently re-established Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) is seeking talented data scientists to support key analytical work relating to the development of improved and innovative metrics and indicators. This exciting opportunity will suit highly motivated, scientifically minded innovators who thrive in an open-minded research setting.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop an informed view of Clarivate data assets (covering publications, patents, grants and grey literature) using a range of analytical techniques and visualisation technologies
  • Prototype new features and help develop new products (R&D)
  • Demonstrate the utility and effectiveness of variant and novel metrics and indicators
  • Survey, test, and critique new technologies in the areas of machine learning, predictive analytics and natural language processing
  • Contribute to internal and external communications (e.g. reports, research papers, white papers) to explain novel findings and provide suitable interpretation

Scope and Impact:

To join a team of 5 highly experienced scientometric professionals working across the business. This role will include varied tasks working alongside internal teams (e.g. Editorial, Production, Data Science, Sales, Customer Success, Professional Services and product teams) and with external collaborators (e.g Funders, Governments, Universities, Charities, Researchers, and more).

Technical / Professional Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong level of programming competency in a language suited to data processing and analysis (e.g. Python + Numpy / Scipy).
  • Excellent practical knowledge of key analytical techniques, especially machine learning (scikit or equivalent), topic modelling (Mallet, LDA, NMF), trend detection and network analysis
  • Experience using a range of modern visualisation technologies (print and screen)
  • Proficiency with data processing and data management technology
  • Methodical and detail-oriented approach
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Awareness (and ideally first-hand experience) of academic research

Education:

  • Minimum: BSc or MSc in Computer Science / Physics / Mathematics / Engineering
  • Desirable: PhD

  • Working at a high level of productivity to meet business requirements
  • Able to work flexibly with colleagues in different time zones, by phone, video conference, email, etc…
