The Requirements

Join us in London as a Data Scientist

  • You'll join our Client Data Analytics Technology team, responsible for the delivery of data and analytics to NatWest Markets
  • As a Data Scientist, you'll be using advanced analytics techniques to understand our clients and service their requirements better
  • The Advanced Analytics platform is relatively new, so you'll have the chance to be involved in a rapidly changing and dynamic environment and to influence direction in it.
  • The role offers an exciting opportunity to combine data science with cloud technologies with data in a leadership role that you'll find challenging and rewarding in equal measure

What you'll do

As a Data Scientist, you'll be engaging with the business to understand how data science may help with their requirement. You'll be working with the business to refine the scope of requirement, and working with colleagues in technology to obtain and engineer data.

You'll also be:

  • Assisting with data engineering as an when required
  • Using tools, techniques and experience to audition models to discover optimal model for use-case
  • Explaining outcomes, highlights and limitations of any technique chosen to meet requirements
  • Engaging in any tuning or optimisation required to productionise models, as well as any governance requirements
  • Influencing the future direction of advanced analytics in Client Technology with respect to the journey to cloud and tooling

The skills you'll need

We're looking for a problem solver with excellent communication skills, and the ability to communicate with non-tech stakeholders and with technology experts equally. You'll be a collaborative self-starter with a background in data science or data engineering and demonstrable experience of using industry recognised frameworks and development tooling.

You'll need experience of working in an environment where products have to be delivered to specific timescales, along with the ability to rapidly and effectively understand and translate product and business requirements into technical solutions.

You'll also demonstrate:

  • Experience in providing productionised models to benefit the business
  • Experience in using standard open source frameworks such as Anaconda, Jupyter, TensorFlow and Spark
  • Development experience in Python and preferably R
  • Experience of working with code repositories, bug tracking tools and wikis
  • Experience designing or implementing APIs such as Flask
  • Knowledge of relational, in-memory, distributed and non-SQL databases
