A vacancy for an Applied Data Scientist has arisen within the Digital Transformation Office (DTO) in Filton. You will join the Artificial Intelligence & Analytics team.

The DTO leads the digital transformation of Airbus group, leading key initiatives, defining the company’s digital strategy, and enabling culture change. The Artificial Intelligence & Analytics team is a central group of data scientists and AI specialists in the DTO. Its broader mission is to embed Analytics & Artificial Intelligence within Airbus through solving Airbus’ biggest, most valuable, analytics business problems and transferring the approach to the business.

As an Applied Data Scientist, you will work with a multifunctional team of technical and subject matter experts from across the business to deliver complex and valuable data science projects, from project proposal to minimum viable products.

The role is an integral part of a rapidly growing and evolving team that works at the cutting edge of applied data science. The team has a large degree of autonomy and high visibility to top management.

Specific Responsibilities Include

Scoping, executing and delivering rapid prototypes to all areas of the business including hands-on work to:

  • Build and explore integrated datasets
  • Derive insights and support user’s decision making through means of statistical inference and machine learning
  • Visualize results in a compelling way

Driving the development of the broader analytics community through:

  • Sharing expertise and best practices in machine learning and AI techniques
  • Supporting the setup of new analytics teams

Communicating data science capabilities and project results to a variety of audiences incl. senior management

Required Skills

Experience in:

  • Leading and executing data science projects
  • Stakeholder management, communication and networking

Significant experience in:

  • Understanding, structuring, and integrating data
  • Inferential statistics / machine learning
  • Python or R (knowledge of other languages such as Spark, Javascript or Matlab would be a plus)

Desirable Skills

Applying optimisation techniques to business problemsAdapting to new business areas, utilising domain expertise and building business casesBackground in engineering or aerospace industryAgile & Development tools, e.g. Jira, GitData visualisation tools, e.g. Spotfire, D3.js, RShiny, Dash

Languages

Fluent written and spoken EnglishDesirable: French,German and other European languages

This role is based at Filton, Bristol with occasional requirements for business travel within the UK and abroad
