Salary: £33,287 - £45,571 with a possible Recruitment & Retention Allowance of up to £10,000, dependant on skills and experience

The UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO) is an executive agency, sponsored by the Ministry of Defence. We work with a wide range of data partners to chart the world's oceans in order to develop and serve world leading software and data solutions to commercial shipping companies, navies and maritime organisations. Our products (found on over 90% of ships trading internationally) ensure safe navigation and global trade efficiency and support other marine activities including economic development, environmental protection, resource exploration and utilisation, scientific research and security and defence.
As a Data Scientist, you will work across the whole organisation to embed data science at the UKHO. You will be working with cutting edge technology on a wide range of fascinating and impactful projects in the marine domain, utilising machine learning techniques and distributed/serverless data pipelines to process a wide variety of data, including bathymetry data, lidar, satellite images, autonomous vessel data and many more.

As we are building an industry leading data science team, you will also have the opportunity to support collaborations and relationships across government, MoD and wider.
To be considered, you must hold a degree in Mathematics/Statistics or in a scientific or engineering discipline or have significant practical experience of working as a Data Scientist/Analyst. You will also be capable of confidently programming in either one or more of the following: R, Python, Matlab, Scala, and be able to pick up other programming languages quickly. Equally important is production experience of data analytics, data processing, data visualisation, scientific research methods and machine learning.
