Our Head Office department is located in the heart of Piccadilly and occupies the 5th & 6th floor of our beautiful flagship store. This central London location, offers so much to explore including restaurants, bars, cultural sites, shopping and more, and only a short walk from the Green Park Tube Station and plenty of bus stops.

Role Purpose

To create, develop, and improve digital systems and tools, by taking a lead role in overseeing the entire process from concept to digital implementation. They will configure and evaluate system architecture and use modelling and testing to assess and refine designs.

Key Accountabilities:

Strategic

  • Assist in the Lead Digital Engineer and Digital Engineer in achieving the digital KPI’s/goals.
  • Take full ownership of projects assigned within the Fortnum and Mason data platform.
  • Manage data from various sources to produce valuable data assets related to Fortnum’s customers.
  • Harvest and maintain a semantic and intelligent data layer, ensuring comprehensive guidance of the data solution within the environment.

Operational

  • Monitor and implement divisional Digital Engineering procedures and plans.
  • Coordinate 3D collaboration processes and manage digital collaboration platforms at the project level.
  • Conduct quality assurance audits and maintain assessment data.
  • Responsible for collecting reporting/analysis requirements, working with the engineering team to ensure proper data flows, and partnering with other technology teams to provide clear strategic recommendations to drive incremental results.
  • Create effective reporting solutions to empower data-driven strategies & decisions for marketing teams.
  • Translate and present complex data into actionable insights through analytic deep dives and dashboards.
  • Maintain a progressive tech stack, including Python, PySpark, Logic Apps, Azure Functions, ADLS, Django and ReactJs.
  • Engineer and orchestrate data models and pipelines within a cloud environment, leveraging technologies like Databricks, Spark, Delta Lake and SQL.
  • Champion DevOps and CI/CD methodologies to ensure agile collaboration and robust data solutions.
  • Write high-quality code that contributes to a scalable and maintainable data platform.

People & Collaboration

  • Provide technical advice and training to project teams and clients.
  • Collaborate closely with analysts, data experts, and technology partners to understand their requirements and translate them into actionable data solutions.
  • Maintain open communication with the Data Engineering team and Head of Digital Engineering, working collaboratively and exchanging ideas to drive platform excellence.

Experience and Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ experience working as a Data Engineer, with high level of technical competency within Digital Engineer arena.
  • Solid expertise in data processing and transformation using Spark, Databricks, Azure Data Factory, or similar data processing technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure cloud services and infrastructure, including familiarity with Azure Blob Storage, Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS), Azure DevOps, Azure Logic Apps and Azure Functions.
  • Mastery in one or more of the following programming languages: Python, SQL or PySpark, with the ability to effectively utilize them for data engineering tasks.
  • Experience in designing, developing, and managing end-to-end data pipelines, ETL (Extract, Transform, Load), and ELT (Extract, Load, Transform) solutions
  • Possesses knowlede of the contemporary data engineering and analytics landscape, including current tools, pertinent approaches and likely challenges.
  • Experience of designing and constructing databases, analytics systems and Business Intelligence (BI) platforms within the context of Big Data, Proficient in CRM data and platforms.
  • Familiarity with graph database technologies such as Neo4J and Cypher.
  • Knowledge and experience working with Delta Lake, a storage layer that brings ACID transactions to data lakes.
  • Experience in working in, and prioritising work across multiple projects and business functions.
  • Demonstrates evidence of delivering clear communication and training where required.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, but also as an individual contributor.
  • Proven ability to work within small creative teams as well as cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with customer insights, CRM email & push performance, and driving end-to-end lifecycle programmes.

Technical

  • Experience and ability to understand and analyse complex concepts and business processes to produce requirements definition for projects and translate these requirements to functional specifications, that are in simpler language that all stakeholders understand.
  • Maintains a proactive approach to staying updated with emerging technologies and a strong desire to continuously learn and adapt to new tools, languages and methodologies in the ever-evolving field of data engineering and analytics
  • Strong understanding of testing techniques (A/B, multivariate) and methodologies to advise on best practices, business insights, and recommendations execution and provide actionable next steps
  • Strong support for Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) practices and an understanding of agile working methodologies.
  • Have deep knowledge on providing technical governance to enhance ways of working to improve the SDLC process.
  • Understanding of Retail environment and requirements for changing needs of the business
