There has never been a more exciting time to be part of the HR function within Department for International Trade (DIT); we are delivering on Government priorities against the backdrop of an exciting HR agenda that facilitates Trade, enhances our inclusiveness, and creates the space for people to thrive at work.

The Head of People Analytics and Insights is a critical role for helping DIT deliver these priorities. As a central role within our HR Centres of Expertise, this role is the leader of the People Data and Analysis team who create and deliver people reporting for DIT, helping to inform the strategic interventions we make through our data. Data is a high priority for the HR Function in DIT and the quality management of how data processes flow, information is managed, and outcomes help improve the department will be key for the post holder.

The successful candidate for this role will lead the team by role-modelling leadership behaviours, bringing an operational excellence and continuous improvement mindset, and organising the workload to ensure timely and swift response.

DIT’s People Data and Analysis team are currently working to improve data and reporting in DIT, learning SQL coding to help create better outputs for end customers, and the successful candidate will be welcomed to join the journey of data improvement too.

Job Description

The Head of People Analytics and Insights role supports DIT operations through provision of regular people reporting, managing data requests from within the department, and helping to inform the HR Function of impacts and priorities through data. You will play an exciting role to help achieve DIT objectives, which include considering our attraction, recruitment, diversity and inclusion impacts, and our workforce composition. You will support the HR Function to develop using analysis and insight, as well as through creating an inclusive and supportive environment within your team.

This role has significant visibility within the HR Function and wider Chief Operating Officer directorate stakeholders. There will be opportunities to develop wider HR knowledge, including International HR and the unique challenges which may be faced by overseas colleagues.

Your Priorities Will Look Like

  • Leadership of the People Data and Analytics Team (c.2 x SEOs, 1 x Statistician Fast Streamer, 4 x HEOs, 2 x EOs)
  • Management and accountability for people reporting across DIT
  • Organisation and resourcing of regular commissions and submissions for Cabinet Office and OGDs regarding people data
  • Customer management with internal stakeholders to manage reporting requests
  • Advising on people data returns and methodologies to help support key people data productions, such as the Gender Pay Gap report, Annual Report and Accounts (from a workforce perspective) and the Annual Civil Service Employment Survey
  • Briefing Senior Leadership on workforce reports and changes to key people metrics
  • Effective resourcing and management of resources
  • Continuous improvement of people reporting for DIT

The role will be based in either London, Darlington & Cardiff. You will be asked to express a location preference during the application process.

Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas.

Informal hybrid working arrangements will be available as agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role.

Most DIT employees will be working a hybrid pattern, spending 2-3 days a week (pro rata) in an office, on average. If your office location is London, you will be eligible to receive London weighting.

Appointments will be made to candidates in merit order based on location preferences.

Responsibilities

A people Leader, you will be a team-player, supportive, and able to consider how to organise workload effectively to help delivery. There is no ideal candidate for this role, but the successful candidate would be collaborative, consider wider impacts across the HR function and the department, and able to build an inclusive team environment for people to thrive within.

Essential Criteria

  • Experience of working with data, providing reports, and drawing evidence-based conclusions
  • Experience of leading and managing a team
  • Confidence and ability to brief senior leaders on complex data and people information

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of working across Government
  • Experience in a HR Operational Environment
  • Experience working with Oracle ERP and/or OrgVue
  • Experience in continuous improvement and/or HR process design
  • Experience with SQL
