Over the last year, we have witnessed a major transformation for Ocado Technology and the Ocado Smart Platform (OSP). From weathering the pains of customers placing their first orders, to offering an online retail solution that has helped rocket our business to the FTSE 100. Not only are we ‘live’ and successful for a major retailer but we are well underway in realising our vision in becoming the leading retail online platform provider, with four of the world’s leading retailers already on board.

To support our continuing transformation into a major provider of technology services to retailers around the world, we are building a new organisational unit to support the mission of our Chief of Engineering Officer (CengO). This ‘Office of the CengO’ promotes technical & engineering alignment. The remit of the Office covers software engineering across the whole organisation, working across team and stream boundaries. The focus is on making a positive impact to the productivity and effectiveness of our development teams, both through direct services and through building and strengthening our engineering culture.

What you'll do:

The role is not just the traditional combination of data analysis and reporting, but you will also be a key contributor to driving the data revolution within Ocado Technology. You will be unearthing how we can improve the efficiency for over 1000 engineers so they can building awesome products whilst also identifying how we can be as cost effective as possible across our different cloud providers. You will be an intuitive data junkie with high "figure it out" quotient and be sharing this knowledge through the development of simple learning pathways and occasional internal workshops. You will support cross department knowledge sharing by helping other development teams build their critical business and system KPIs. This role requires a high level of autonomy and strong communication skills.

Where you will work:

You will work as the Insight Analyst in the Office of the CEngO (Chief Engineering Officer). CEngO purpose is to define, align and support the technology and engineering strategies for Ocado Technology.

Your responsibilities:

  • Build a comprehensive suite of reports to support CEngO decision making across Ocado Technology
  • Discover better resource utilisation models through data and assist in the formation of strategies to result in long-term financial gains
  • Engage in research to support CEngO’s data strategy
  • Work with the developers to ensure they are capturing the correct data
  • Be a key contributor to evangelising data insight and culture within OSP
  • Educating others on data analysis and reporting, such as using storytelling techniques, building simple learning paths, delivering training and presentations
  • Provide occasional analytical support to other Ocado Technology departments in building their KPIs
  • Assist with focusing on data quality and escalating discovered issues
  • Assist in the documentation of data for stakeholders

What you need to know:

  • Programming / Query Language experience with SQL and one or more of the following: XML, Python, Excel VBA and Javascript (Google Apps Script)
  • 2:1 or 1st degree and A-level Maths, or equivalent professional experience
  • Demonstrated ability to cross-check, analyse, model and interpret data
  • Demonstrated ability to produce insights and clear graphical representations and visualisations of data using data analysis tools, such as Tableau, Google Data Studio, Google Analytics, Google BigQuery, Google Sheets, Excel
  • Ability to forge strong relationships and work collaboratively within a team and with business and technical stakeholders
  • Bonus points if you have experience in:
  • Agile development
  • Developing learning pathways
  • Running training workshops
