Application Deadline

We are a world class research-intensive university. We deliver teaching and learning of the highest quality. We play a leading role in economic, social and cultural development of the North East of England. Attracting and retaining high-calibre people is fundamental to our continued success.

Job description:

Applications are invited for a Professor of Data Science/Visualization at Newcastle University. The University has a strong group of data science researchers, including those working on new methods in Computing and Statistics, along with collaborators in Science, Engineering, Healthcare and the Humanities who are applying these methods to transform their work. Examples include analysing and visualising data from the word’s largest collection of open civic data – the Urban Observatory – and from Europe-wide digital healthcare programmes.

New opportunities for Newcastle data science researchers are created as we are a partner in The Alan Turing Institute, and also host the UK’s National Innovation Centre for Data.

Data Science is one of the University’s 5 main research themes, and it is currently investing heavily in growing this area of activity. Researchers across Newcastle recognise visualisation as a key field within data science, and it is one we wish to develop.

You will be an outstanding computer scientist with an excellent track record of research leadership in visualization. The proven ability to collaborate with researchers in other disciplines is also essential.

As well as being a leading researcher, with a strong publication track record, you will have great teaching experience, as well as a track record of successful supervision of postgraduate students and postdoctoral researchers. Newcastle has a range of data science programmes at undergraduate, MSc and PhD level and visualisation is a core part of our data science teaching.

For a confidential discussion about this role, please contact the Head of School, Professor Graham Morgan at graham.morgan@newcastle.ac.uk
