This unique and exciting opportunity is to develop novel statistical machine learning methods to unravel trajectories of accumulation of chronic disease (multi-morbidity). Multi-morbidity in the ageing population is a key challenge for 21st Century medicine; data science and machine learning in combination with electronic health record databases offer unique traction on this pressing problem. The post will be located in the AI Centre, as part of the UCL Department of Computer Science, and jointly appointed with the Institute for Health Informatics.

The work will be embedded in a national network focussed on understanding and addressing multi-morbidity within the national Health Data Research UK initiative. Key duties are to develop and apply novel methods enabling future patient-centred care and highlighting strategies to avoid polypharmacy and aid early effective intervention. Responsibilities, in addition to research, are engagement with the national network and involvement in teaching and supervision in computer science and health informatics.

This post is funded for 24 months in the first instance.

Key RequirementsCandidates are expected to hold a PhD in computer science or a related technical discipline, have some experience of developing statistical and/or machine-learning methods, and, ideally, have some experience of medical applications.
