We are seeking a highly motivated an ambitious data scientist, who would be looking to build an academic career within the University of Oxford. This role is suitable for a qualified bioinformatician or health data scientist who fulfils the specific criteria as outlined below. You will lead the data science activities within the Antoniades Research Group in the Acute Vascular Imaging Centre and the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine of the Radcliffe Department of Medicine, University of Oxford.

You will work on several closely related projects that are all concerned with the development and validation of novel tools for the assessment of cardiovascular disease risk and severity. The role will include the analysis of RNA sequencing and genomic data, radiomic data (big data derived from the analysis of CT scans) and patient health outcomes. If successful you will lead the data management and analysis strategy from a large programme (the Oxford Heart Vessels and Fat (ox-HVF, www.oxhvf.com) that includes >100k patients with cardiac imaging and extensive tissue molecular phenotyping, linked with long-term outcomes data through the UK national databases and international registries.
You will hold a degree in a relevant subject and a post-graduate degree in Biostatistics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computing, Mathematical Biology or a related subject and show a strong academic background in bioinformatics (or closely related) and the motivation and ability to undertake and contribute to the research programmes. Experience in GWAS analysis would be desirable.

This is a full time appointment on a fixed term contract for 4 years funded through a European Commission Horizon 2020 project named Machine Learning and Artificial intelligence for Early detection of Stroke and Atrial Fibrillation (MAESTRIA), and you will be based at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, OX3 9DU.
