In this exciting role here at Virgin Atlantic (VAL) you'll design, deploy and oversee the key algorithms and models that will drive optimal decisioning within VAL - through domain, statistical and data expertise, use of relevant technologies and efficient automation processes. Working within the Operational Research team you will support the delivery of optimization projects as well as proactively identifying further optimization opportunities across the organisation. Through the evaluation of historical data, near real time computation on live and simulated data, and consideration of the business context of models and outputs, this role will enable best action by our front and back office members to accelerate and enrich VAL’s objectives.

  • Provide insight to the business through the creation and delivery of detailed and repeatable interactive analytical tools and deployable models
  • Design, deployment and continuous improvement of approaches to determine trading metrics, incrementality measurement, forward projection and entity valuation/scoring
  • Identify appropriate models given data of variable quality, size and completeness to enable effective decisioning by Managers and their teams
  • Provide key insight and analysis along with advice on new avenues of investigation
  • Evaluate statistical approaches of internal analytics driven projects, external vendor models and procured software when needed
  • Acts as an authority on statistical significance testing of initiatives and scenario modelling for cross-directorate Managers
  • Owns the design, development and movement to production/BAU of multiple analytical tools and models
  • Design and implements deep analysis of VAL and wider market movements through automated machine learning techniques
  • Identify, design and own assigned projects for initiatives including planning, research and implementation to deliver to successful conclusion
  • Identify new project opportunities with and for cross directorate Managers

About you

Do you have a strong statistical/analytical background with either a masters/post grad in STEM subject? Then this could be the role for youAlongside the above we're looking for the following to be successful in your application:

  • An expert in Python and proficient in at least one of R/SQL/other scripting
  • A strong understanding of distributed computing and the use of cloud technologies
  • Proven experience in defining commercial or operational problems and applying data driven/statistically minded solutions
  • Proven experience of presenting outputs and building tools for stakeholders to utilise ML models
