Nuffield Department of Medicine, Structural Genomics Consortium

Old Road Campus Research Building Headington, Oxford

Grade 8: £40,792 - £48,677 p.a.

Reporting to the PI Research Informatics (Dr Brian Marsden), the successful candidate will be responsible for devising and managing the delivery of novel data capture, curation and sharing solutions by the SGC Oxford Research Informatics team from target through protein production, structure determination and chemical biology to support our international programmes. This position is a full-time on a fixed-term contract until 30 June 2022.

You will have a PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant scientific subject work directly with senior scientists and directors across the SGC’s six sites around the world to identify and deliver solutions at scale whilst also engaging with our industrial partners and collaborators to ensure that the SGC is able to capture the broad range of data to enable open-access sharing of SGC outputs to the scientific community at large. You will be responsible for direct interactions with strategic partners including ChEMBL, OpenTargets, Genomics England as well as development of new technologies with our collaborators at MolSoft LLC. As such, an ability to think creatively and communicate clearly with both developers and scientists at all levels along with experience of managing a diverse team will be important.

The SGC (Structural Genomics Consortium) catalyses research in new areas of Human biology by explicitly focusing on less well-studied areas of the Human genome. We are looking for an individual with a proven track record of managing and developing informatics solutions to support the SGC’s work and our future plans for significantly scaling-up discovery of chemical probes, chemogenomic libraries and target-enabling packages (www.thesgc.org/tep). This position presents a unique opportunity for candidates who possess significant coding and database experience combined with a strong understanding of early-stage drug discovery who want to play a direct role in driving the success of a highly-regarded international organisation in catalysing the discovery of new human biology and new drug targets.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online, and as part of the application you will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement.

Only applications received before 12.00 noon on 19 July 2019 will be considered.
