About The Role
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Data Scientist to join our Subsurface team at our Abingdon office in Oxfordshire. This is a unique opportunity to apply advanced data science techniques to geological and geospatial challenges, helping us unlock insights from complex subsurface data. The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative solutions that enhance our understanding of geological formations and improve decision-making processes. Qualifications
Candidates should possess an honors degree (2:1 or above) in data science, computer science, geosciences, or a related field. A minimum of two years of relevant work experience in data science or analytics is required. The role demands a strong foundation in programming, data manipulation, and statistical analysis, along with practical experience in deploying machine learning models and handling large datasets. Familiarity with geospatial data and tools is highly desirable, as is experience working within cloud environments such as AWS and Azure. Candidates should demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and possess the ability to work collaboratively in an agile team setting. Self-motivation, attention to detail, and the capacity to manage multiple tasks efficiently are essential qualities for success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain robust Python pipelines for data manipulation, incorporating NLP techniques and Foundation Models to extract meaningful insights from unstructured data sources.
- Apply geospatial libraries and techniques, such as GeoPandas, Shapely, and GDAL, to analyze geological and geospatial datasets related to subsurface formations.
- Implement secure coding practices, ensuring code quality and integrity, and manage version control effectively using Git.
- Collaborate with cloud teams to leverage AWS and Azure platforms for scaling data workflows, managing infrastructure, and deploying models in production environments.
- Optimize database performance and spatial queries using PostgreSQL/PostGIS, ensuring efficient data retrieval and analysis.
- Design, train, and evaluate supervised and unsupervised machine learning algorithms to solve complex geoscience problems.
- Preprocess large datasets, ensuring data quality and consistency for analysis and modeling purposes.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to translate data insights into actionable recommendations that support exploration and production activities.
- Stay updated with emerging trends and technologies in data science, geospatial analysis, and AI to continuously improve methodologies and tools.
