AI4I invites applications for the role of Director: a leader able to shape scientific and technological strategy, develop talent and translate research and engineering capabilities into industrial impact.
The Director will define AI4I’s strategy for scientific and technological development and industrial impact, prepare the multi-year Strategic Plan and the Annual Plan for approval by the Supervisory Board, and set clear objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs). The Director will be responsible for implementing both plans and achieving their objectives.
Working with the Heads of Laboratories, the Director will shape research, development and engineering priorities to address industrial needs and ensure that each laboratory implements its business plan and achieves its objectives. In developing and implementing the Institute’s strategy, the Director will draw on the advice of the Scientific Advisory Board. The Director will also coordinate the development of AI4I’s different units, including its laboratories, the AI Foundry and the Academy.
The role includes setting recruitment strategy, coordinating hiring and talent development, building partnerships with companies, business associations, competence centres and public institutions, leading business development and technology transfer, and securing additional funding. The Director will leverage the SUK (System for User Knowledge) platform to build a national ecosystem for the development and adoption of AI solutions. Activities include research on agentic and physical AI and the development, validation and deployment of AI-based engineering solutions in areas such as advanced manufacturing, robotics and automation, energy and infrastructure.
Candidates must combine deep AI knowledge with experience leading complex organisations, engaging effectively with industry, and securing and managing significant funding. A master’s degree or equivalent is required. Candidates may come from research institutions, industry, consultancy, public institutions or technology-transfer organisations.
Renewable three-year appointment with an internationally competitive remuneration package.
