The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) has a great opportunity for a Data Scientist to join our Sales and Marketing department on 18 months fixed term contract.

In this position you will play a crucial role in transforming complex data into actionable insights that drive real-world impact.

In this highly technical and analytical role, you will support the Senior Data Scientist by assisting with the delivery of data science activities. Your role, through your expertise in machine learning, applied statistics and programming, is to identify patterns, trends and craft compelling narratives that shape strategy, improve products, and unlock new opportunities. You will advise on and investigate the feasibility of data science solutions and ideas, and deliver strategic project work, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and seamless execution of data-driven initiatives.

We are looking for 

Professional Experience

  • Demonstrable experience in data science.
  • Proven track record in managing and executing both large-scale customer, commercial and/or scientific data science projects with a strong emphasis on delivering actionable insights and driving business growth.

Technical Expertise

  • Expert knowledge of machine learning and applied statistics (e.g.,regression, clustering methodologies, GLMs, decision trees s).
  • Proficiency in R (tidyverse) or Python (numpy, pandas).
  • Experience with SQL
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Expertise in data modelling techniques and content management systems.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and continuous delivery.

This role is contractually based at our Cambridge office. However, we embrace flexibility at the RSC and offer hybrid working, which means our teams come together when they need to collaborate and for Team meetings. Any hybrid working arrangements need to be agreed with your line manager.

Applicants should be aware that there is an expectation that employees will attend our Cambridge office around once a month.
