We are investing in Data Science to address scientific challenges within the application areas of Advanced Manufacturing, Energy & Environment, and Life Sciences & Health and to deliver tangible impact in line with significant organizational growth and transformation plans.

The Department of Data Science is looking for a senior researcher to shape our thinking around machine/statistical learning and AI and deliver research in Explainable, and Trustworthy ML/AI algorithms including uncertainty propagation. You will be undertaking research that underpins NPL activities such as:

  • Autonomous Vehicles
  • Earth Observation
  • Healthcare Imaging

About You

We are looking to appoint an established scientist who will bring the following knowledge and skills to the role:

Essential Experience

  • A degree/PhD in a relevant subject such as Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics etc.,
  • Extensive research experience developing machine learning/AI algorithms and a fundamental understanding of the underpinning mathematics and statistics
    • Machine Learning/Deep Learning
    • Signal Processing
    • Optimisation
    • Bayesian inference
    • Markovian sampling algorithms
  • Skills in programming in a high-level language such as Python or MATLAB

Desirable Experience

  • Uncertainty Evaluation
  • Promoting good practice in software development
  • Experience in applying ML/AI in real-world applications
